10-Day Tangier to Marrakech Grand Road Journey
A north-to-south Morocco road journey with two nights in the Sahara region, a full guided Fes day and time for Marrakech.
10 days / 9 nights inspirational route. Private and adapted after inquiry.
Tangier → Chefchaouen → Fes → Merzouga → Dades → Marrakech

Journey at a Glance
The north, a full Sahara chapter and a Marrakech close.
Start in Tangier, pause in Chefchaouen and Fes, then cross the Middle Atlas towards Erg Chebbi. Two nights in the Sahara region separate the desert day from the long journeys before and after it.
Todra, Dades and Ait Ben Haddou lead the route towards Marrakech, where a guided city day comes before departure. Geographic breadth still brings substantial road time, particularly between Fes and Merzouga and between Dades and Marrakech.
Perfect for
Travelers who want Morocco's northern cities, the Sahara and southern landscapes in one private route.
Journey style
A private north-to-south journey with guided Fes and Marrakech days, two Sahara-region nights and a one-way Marrakech finish.
What makes this route special
The Sahara gets a full day of its own, while Fes and Marrakech each have dedicated guided time rather than being squeezed between transfers.
Arriving from Europe?
Confirm your exact Tangier port or airport and your onward departure before fixing the road route. This sample finishes in Marrakech. A return to Tangier needs a separately agreed plan.

Who It Suits
Travelers who want Morocco's northern cities, the Sahara and southern landscapes in one private route.
The planning tradeoff
Fes to Merzouga and Dades to Marrakech are substantial road days. Stops and activities must fit real travel conditions.
Planning Range
Indicative planning range for two travelers: €7,000–€13,500
Planning basis
- Two travelers sharing one room or tent
- Private vehicle, professional driver and agreed arrival/departure transfers
- Locally rooted stays with room budgets that vary by comfort level and date
- Fes and Volubilis local guides, plus Ait Ben Haddou and Marrakech guides
- One camp night and one lodge night around Merzouga
- Private Sahara 4x4 outing, picnic lunch and camel experience
- Breakfast where provided by the selected stay; other meals and entrance tickets excluded unless specified
- An allowance for vehicle positioning on this one-way route; exact logistics confirmed in the proposal
This is an indicative planning range, not a fixed booking price. Dates, group size, room configuration, comfort level, route details, and selected inclusions shape the final proposal.
Choose your journey from Tangier
5, 7 or 10 days?
These are different route shapes, not simply longer versions of the same trip. Choose by your departure city and whether the Sahara belongs in your journey.
5 days
Keep the focus on the north and finish in Fes
Tangier, Chefchaouen and Roman heritage lead to a full guided Fes day. There is no Marrakech transfer or Sahara detour.
7 days
Continue through Rabat to Marrakech
Follow the northern and imperial-city route without the Sahara. Marrakech has one overnight; add a night for a full city day.
10 days
Include the Sahara and southern valleys
Protect two Sahara-region nights and guided Fes and Marrakech days, while accepting the substantial road days between regions.
Sample Day-by-Day Itinerary
This is an inspirational route at a clear duration, not a rigid package. The final journey can adapt around your dates, start and end points, pace, accommodation preferences, activities, guide days, season, and wider Morocco plans.
1Arrive in TangierOvernight: Tangier
- Agreed Tangier arrival pickup
- Port or airport timing
- Orientation when practical
- Overnight in Tangier
Begin at the Tangier arrival point confirmed in your proposal. The transfer from Tangier Med differs from Tangier Ville or the airport. Any sightseeing follows the actual ferry or flight arrival.
2Tangier to ChefchaouenOvernight: Chefchaouen
- Private northern road transfer
- Chefchaouen medina time
- Rif landscape
- Overnight in Chefchaouen
Travel through the north to Chefchaouen and leave time for the medina. The overnight keeps this chapter separate from the journey towards Fes the following day.
3Volubilis, Meknes and FesOvernight: Fes
- Volubilis with a local guide
- Meknes if time permits
- Continue to Fes
- First of two Fes nights
Continue south with a local-guided Volubilis visit. Meknes can fit when the pace permits, before the route reaches Fes for a two-night stay.
4Explore FesOvernight: Fes
- Full day with a local guide
- Fes medina and craft areas
- Visits suited to your interests
- Second night in Fes
Explore Fes with a local guide, focusing on the medina, architecture and crafts that interest you. A full city day protects this visit from the long transfer towards the Sahara.
5Middle Atlas to MerzougaOvernight: Merzouga
- Substantial road day
- Middle Atlas crossing
- Ziz Valley scenery
- Arrival in the Merzouga region
Cross the Middle Atlas and follow the Ziz Valley towards Merzouga. This is a substantial driving day; stops must fit the road conditions and the arrival plan rather than a fixed sightseeing timetable.
6A full Sahara dayOvernight: Merzouga
- Full Sahara-region day
- Private 4x4 exploration
- Picnic lunch
- Camel experience or arranged vehicle alternative
Spend a full day in the Erg Chebbi region. The priced planning example allows for private 4x4 exploration, picnic lunch and a camel experience. A vehicle alternative can be arranged if you prefer not to ride. Quad and buggy activities are optional and quoted separately.
7Todra and DadesOvernight: Dades Valley
- Leave the Sahara region
- Todra landscapes
- Continue towards Dades
- Overnight in Dades Valley
Leave the Merzouga region and travel towards Todra and Dades. Sightseeing stops follow the day's road timing, with the night spent in the Dades Valley rather than continuing straight to Marrakech.
8Ait Ben Haddou to MarrakechOvernight: Marrakech
- Valley of Roses and Skoura road
- Guided Ait Ben Haddou visit
- High Atlas crossing
- Substantial transfer to Marrakech
Follow the southern road through the Valley of Roses and Skoura towards Ait Ben Haddou for a guided visit. Continue across the High Atlas to Marrakech. This remains a substantial road day, so extra visits must not crowd out the transfer.
9Marrakech with a local guideOvernight: Marrakech
- Local guide in Marrakech
- City visits shaped around your interests
- Tickets selected in the proposal
- Second night in Marrakech
Spend a full day in Marrakech with a local guide. Select the visits and any ticketed attractions around your interests in the proposal. This planning range does not assume every city entrance ticket is included.
10Marrakech departureOvernight: Departure day
- Confirmed departure timing
- Agreed private transfer
- Airport or onward connection
- End in Marrakech
Your final private transfer follows the departure arrangement agreed in the proposal. Keeping this day for departure protects the guided Marrakech day from flight-time pressure.
